Facebook Admits To Scanning Private Messages

If you use Facebook Messenger to share your deepest secrets with friends, be aware, Facebook may be eavesdropping.

According to a recent statement from Facebook, Messenger scans photos and links sent by users on the messaging platform. They are analyzed for violation of Facebook’s conduct policies and if they are flagged by the automated system, they are then read by moderators.

Facebook Messenger does not automatically provide end-to-end encryption and you must activate “secret conversations” on the Messenger platform in order to take advantage of encryption.

Do you use Messenger to share confidential information with friends?  Will knowing that Facebook scans messages change the way you use the platform?
