LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday sought the public's help to find the hit-and-run motorist responsible for injuring a Los Angeles Department of Transportation officer who was directing traffic in the downtown Los Angeles area.

The officer was directing traffic at Flower Street and Olympic Boulevard about 7 p.m. on May 12 when he was hit by a car that kept going, said Los Angeles Police Department Det. Juan Campos of the Central Traffic Division.

"The LADOT officer had directed the driver of a newer model Mercedes- Benz C-Class, with a Texas license plate, that was traveling westbound on Olympic Boulevard, to stop," Campos said in a statement.

"As the LADOT officer was directing other traffic, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz disregarded the LADOT officer's direction to remain stopped and proceeded to drive forward," Campos said. "The driver struck the LADOT officer as she drove through the intersection and failed to stop to render aid and identify herself."

The officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said. The hit-and-run driver was described as a woman about 20-30 years of age.

A reward of up to $5,000 is available from the city of Los Angeles for information that helps solve a hit-and-run, police said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Campos at 213- 833-3713, or email him at 31480@lapd.online. Tipsters may also call 877-LAPD- 247. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
