NEWPORT BEACH (CNS) - An investigation by Newport Beach police was continuing Wednesday into allegations that an NBA player had an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey, 21, declined to comment on the situation when questioned about the situation during a practice on Friday.
"Yeah, I mean, I understand the question, obviously, but there's no further comment right now," he told reporters.
Giddey played during Tuesday night's game in Minnesota and was repeatedly booed by fans whenever he touched the ball.
Details about the allegations were still slim, but questions began arising over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend when photos circulated online of Giddey with a female. In a since-deleted social media post, an anonymous user alleged that the girl in the photos was a junior in high school.
Newport Beach police Sgt. Steve Oberon confirmed to various media outlets that the department was looking into the situation.
"We have information, and we're looking into it," Oberon told ESPN. "We're investigating whether or not a crime occurred."
A representative for the NBA has also confirmed that the league is reviewing the situation.
TMZ reported Wednesday that the female seen with Giddey in the photos was refusing to cooperate with police, as was her family.
