In response to recent violent incidents in Encino, including the murders of an "American Idol" executive and her husband, Mayor Karen Bass will meet with the Los Angeles Police Department and local leaders on Thursday at 7 p.m. The virtual meeting aims to address a series of residential break-ins and burglaries plaguing the San Fernando Valley area.

The community is on edge following these crimes, which include an attempted break-in at the home of former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Teddi Mellencamp earlier this month. Encino officials plan to present a formal request for increased action from the Los Angeles City Council during the meeting.

In the wake of these events, more than 200 residents have voiced their safety concerns to police and Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. The LAPD has responded by boosting patrols on foot, by air, and on horseback, especially at night, and has launched a major crackdown on crime in the area. According to KABC, investigators from different departments are joining crime prevention efforts, which include the use of license plate readers.
