Portland, Oregon, ranked first, offering a high number of affordable restaurants with vegetarian or vegan options and a strong community of organic farms and farmers markets. Residents in Portland order vegetarian or vegan cuisine 148% more often than the national average, making it a haven for plant-based eaters.
Los Angeles follows closely in second place. The city boasts a high number of affordable, highly-rated restaurants with meatless options and a robust network of farmers markets and organic farms. Angelenos consume vegan and vegetarian food 187% more often than the U.S. average, reflecting the city's vibrant plant-based culture.
Austin, Texas, ranks third, known for its numerous juice and smoothie bars and affordable vegetarian grocery items. The city hosts events like Texas VegFest, enhancing its appeal to those following a plant-based diet.
Other cities in the top 10 include San Francisco, Oakland, and Phoenix, each offering a variety of options for vegans and vegetarians. The study evaluated 100 cities based on factors like grocery costs, restaurant availability, and community support for a vegetarian lifestyle.
