Happy First Day Of Summer 2022

Happy First Day Of Summer 2022!

Today is the Summer Solstice. For people who live in the Northern Hemisphere of the world, today is the longest day of the year and the first official day of summer. Some states can have up to 14-16 hours of daylight and Alaska can have up to 24 hours of daylight.

The summer solstice occurs when the Earth’s axial tilt is closest to the sun. This occurs in late June for the Northern Hemisphere and late December for the Southern Hemisphere. The summer solstice is a significant time for many religions and cultures.

Today, people all over the world will mark this important milestone in the year with festivals, gatherings, and rituals.

The time honored tradition of welcoming the summer solstice continued at Stonehedge in England. Six thousand druids, pagans and New Age revelers greeted the summer solstice at the ancient stone circle this morning. Stonehedge is aligned so that on the summer solstice, the sun rises behind the Heel Stone and rays of sunlight are channeled into the center of the circle.
