Nike's New Dream Crazy Ad Featuring Colin Kaepernick Is Causing Controvesry

Nike's new 'Dream Crazy' campaign is causing quite the controversy!

Wednesday, Nike released their new ad on YouTube featuring former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Serena Williams, Lebron James and many more!

Why the controversy?

In 2016, Kaepernick's viral activism caused waves of backlash along with support. It started when he refused to stand for the national anthem during the NFL's preseason football in efforts to protect racial justice. He would take a knee instead, which caught on to many other players joining in. The backlash was found disrespectful, caused anger, boycotts and ratings to go down.

Kaepernick teased the new Nike ad on Twitter, posting a photo of him in the campaign, which started the buzz and anticipation of the new Nike ad. The hashtag #NikeBoycott was already trending by Tuesday morning.

The 'Dream Crazy' advertisement doesn't reference "taking a knee," but promotes the inspirational "Just Do It" campaign Nike is famous for. Despite that, people are still burning Nike shoes and boycotting Nike for even having Kaepernick in their ad.

Kaepernick says in the commercial, "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything."

Be on the look out for the new Nike commercial airing during the start of the 2018 NFL season, in Thursday nights game.

Kaepernick is currently not signed with the NFL, but is charging the league for him not being able to sign as a free agent.
