Veteran Throws A Yard Sale To Pay For His Own Funeral

A Veteran from Pennsylvania, 66-year-old Willie Davis, is suffering from terminal cancer. He was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer caused by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal squamous cells.

For the past weekends, Davis held yard sales to pay for his own funeral. He hopes to raise enough money to be buried next to his parents in Culpepper, Vermont.

Fundraising for your own funeral? Have you heard of such a thing?

Two strangers became his angels. David Dunkleberger and Ed Sheets stopped by Davis' yard sale the afternoon of August 4, thinking it was a normal yard sale....little did they know.

Dunkleberger and Sheets were paying, when Davis told him to spread the word about anyone who would be interested in helping him raise money for a funeral. When asked whose funeral it was, Davis told him it was his

“After thinking about it all day, Ed and I are determined to help this man,” Dunkleberger said. They went back the next day to “ask for his permission to help him out."

"We’ve all thought our lives were bad and we are going thru rough times, but imagine worrying about selling all of your belongings before you pass away, just so you can be buried with your parents."

They two started a GoFundMe page for Davis explaining his story and received a HUGE response!

Currently, almost $52,000 has been raised exceeding the $40,000 goal!

“It broke your heart, hearing the story, and we just decided we had to do something to try and help him, try to make his life a little bit easier,” Sheets told the news station WJAC. “He’s done a lot of serving our country, so we wanted to kind of return the favor to him so that, again, his last days could be a little less hectic, a little more peaceful to him.”
