Souplantation just announced that they will be closing all of their restaurants permanently due to COVID-19.
If you've never been, Souplantation is an endless soup and salad buffet bar that expanded their franchise outside of California. All locations outside of California were Sweet Tomatoes.
Due to the wake of coronavirus, all 97 locations of Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes are officially closed. According to CEO John Haywood, he stated: "The FDA had previously put out recommendations that included discontinuing self-serve stations, like self-serve beverages in fast food, but they specifically talked about salad bars and buffets. The regulations are understandable, but unfortunately, it makes it very difficult to reopen. And I’m not sure the health departments are ever going to allow it."
This decision was not made lightly. Over the last eight weeks the company explored every possible option to avoid permanently closing.
