If you are planning on getting ashes for Ash Wednesday, the Upland church is famous for their "drive-thru ashes" event to kick off the Christian season of Lent.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, they are doing things a little differently this year due to COVID-19. If you drive into the St. Mark's Episocopal Church on Wednesday, participants will keep their windows rolled up and masked ministers will place a pre-packaged Ash Wednesday kit inside the back of their vehicles. In the kit it will contain blessed ashes as well as a prayer. There will also be Starbucks coffee available.
This contactless method is meant to help prevent any spread of COVID-19 and complies with federal health and safety guidelines.
