During the 93rd Academy Awards this year, attendees will not be required to wear a face mask.
This decision was announced during a Zoom call with reps from the Academy, nominees, publicists and more. The Oscars this year will only allow 170 people that will be rotated in and out throughout the entire ceremony. Due to the theatrical nature of the live ceremony, masks won't be required for those shown on camera as the award show will be filmed like a movie.
When those in attendance are not on camera, they will be asked to wear their face masks at all times, like during the commercial breaks.
